New Firewire Drobo Still Too Slow

Overall I have to say I am extremely disappointed with the speed of the 2nd Gen Drobo. I was expecting it to be much faster than it actually was.

Thats really disappointing it's so slow, even with firewire.

I'd be prepared to put up with 50MB/sec throughput, even if it is about 50% native speed. But 15 - 20 MB/sec is just crap. especially considering the possible capacity of the thing with 5*1.2TB drives.

Drobo is slow because of the internal software that takes all new data and compresses it among all HD's. There is a huge compresses file like a zip file that keeps compressing files from the originals. This is why its slow. I found out also while watching an itunes movie that it kept pausing and the HD was going nuts, turns out the software does auto defrag as well which messes up the performance as well. I stopped using drobo and moved to my normal raid drives from G-Drive.
